Sakè hangover. [MB128]
Mijn sakè-kater,
nou en ?! -- voor bloesems
is er tijd genoeg.
Sakè hangover,
who cares ?! -- for blossoms
I still have time.
Vertaling/Translation: 白ç‹
[Matsuo-Bashô-128] [Lente, 1681.]
futsúká-e(h)i / monó ka wà haná no / áru a(h)Ãda.
"hangover / (some-)thing ?? - of blossoms / there-is, I-have - time.
Hangover, whatever, there's (still) time (to view) / the blossoms.
Hangover, / who cares ?! for blossoms / there's (still) time.
Note 1:
futsukayoï 二日酔ㄠ(ãµã¤ã‹ã‚ˆã„) hangover ("second day drunkenness").
Literally it says in this haiku: 二日酔㲠(futsu - ka - e/yo - hi)
[futsu][-ka] both in kanji and [e] in kanji and [-hi] in hirágana !!
But I can't find this [e] anywhere:
all I find is [yo] written with the same kanji character [é…”] !!
yoï 酔ㄠ(よã„) drunkenness; intoxication. ("yò-wie")
é…Š tei/yô: meitei é…©é…Š (ã‚ã„ã¦ã„) drunkenness; intoxication
[mei-tei: "sweet-sakè drunkenness" ("may-tay", "mé-té").]
tousui 陶酔 (ã¨ã†ã™ã„) drunkenness; intoxication.
[tou-sui: "pottery/porcelain drunk(-enness) ("tó-sü-wie").]
Note 2:
monó-ka-wa ã‚‚ã®ã‹ã¯ [wa written as "ha", the nominative particle]
[Tangorin: used to create a form of question indicating that the speaker actually believes the opposite is true;  emphasizes a determination not to do something, e.g. "Like hell I will !!"; "Who cares ?"; "If he fails, so what ?".]
[Kenkyûsha Japanese Dictionary: "placed at the end of a sentence to indicate strong negation > "Do you (really) expect me to ... ?!".]
Jane Reichhold wrote
"monokawa" as one word and translated it into "no thing(>mono)", "monokawa" is gibberish !!
Jane: "A hangover / is nothing(??) as long as(??) / there are cherryblossoms (< sakúra !!)." She translated the word aïda (time/interval) into "as long as", but "haná no áru aïda" = "of blossoms there is (I have) time".]
