Care
They come to me,
with despair on their faces,
seeking for a voice to tell
of stories about pain and misery
so that we cannot close our eyes.
They come to me,
to find that last hope,
for someone with words to tell,
about the crimes against them,
so that we cannot close our ears.
They come to me,
to stand up for them,
for there is no one else to tell
about their poverty and hunger
so that we cannot walk away.
They come to me,
no hope left on their faces
and there are just no words to tell,
of all the cruelty they suffer
so that we cannot stop to care.
Here I stand, humbled and ashamed
for the love and trust they give,
how can I turn away, close my eyes,
refuse to listen, refuse to speak?7
Now I raise my voice, refusing silence,
calling on all of humanity.
Let our voices rise in unity
and show we truly care.
