We never had a chance

It could have been so wonderful, it could have been so good.
It could have been exceptional, if you would have understood.

That behind this wall of concrete, a scared heart hides away.
And underneath the surface, I wish, I hope, I pray.

That one day you will look at me and tell me to my face.
That although it has been ruff so far, we will see better days.
