The last ember
Amid the shadows of a time gone by,
I found you again, so close, yet shy.
The love that once burned inside me, bright and bold,
Now just a fading glow, a story untold.
Your eyes sparked an image of what once was,
A smile that pulled me back, a heavy cause.
But when your hand once more met mine,
I felt how life began to realign.
For once again in that precious moment, everything was right,
I was safe, with you, my twin flame alight.
And I cursed the universe for its cruel and hurtfull game.
Wondering why, after many years, you came.
For though your heart yearned, your spirit was free,
Too wild, too untamed, to belong to me.
A free bird, untouched by love’s embrace,
Carried away by the wind’s warm grace.
My presence would only stifle your flight,
Dim your brilliance, steal your light.
So, for love's sake, I set you free,
For sometimes, losing is the only peace, you see.
The old flame, that briefly burned,
Faded like smoke, as I saw it turn.
With a sigh, I let you go, some bittersweet regret,
For I knew it was the only way to forget.
