The dailyhaiga translations of Sakuo's haiku are alright, except for:
Sakuo Nakamura, 27 September 2009:
nagusami ni wara wo utsu [yĕ] natsu no tsuki.
I beat straw
to take my mind off things
—summer Moon.
utsu [2 syllables] = (I) beat (as a habit), (I'll) beat, to beat, beating (adj.)
utte [3 syllables] = (I'm) beating, beating (clause participle)
yĕ = Chinese: 1. also; 2. indicating a pause, a judgement or an explanation. > ĕ like e in Heaven and low-long stress, therefore 2 syllables.
[nagusameru = to console; to divert
nagusami ni = in order to divert/console/(. . .)
nagusame = consolation; diversion]
[David Lanoue > just for fun / beating the straw… / summer moon.]
