Lest We Forget
Graves don’t talk
But graves do tell
They do remind you
Of those who fell
It is never easy
It is never without pain
Remembering the beach on which
You were all fighting, struggling, in vain
Through the killing water
You bravely approached the sand
Which later was full of bullets, blood, bodies
Seizing a cross in their hand
Although everyone is silent
You can still hear them scream
And you can still see the look of horror on dying faces
The horror that was terribly extreme
Fire, water, mines and rifles
Were a constantly terrifying threat
And for all that failed to escape
Lest we forget
