Only animals
Wolves howl at the moon
a crow out there makes a harsh caw
they are calling to the dark side
that belongs to the night
the owl is drawing large eyes
en hoots for bad luck,
the mystery purring of the hedgehog
in the shrubbery
the squeaking sound of the mouse
and the rats chewing around the brook
everyone knows it
they are only animals and still
crawling fat spiders
on long and hairy legs
earthworms and woodlouses
are creepy things
it irritates and titillates
when I think of it
so I lift my feet up,
roll myself in my blanket
and dream of them.
