My old elbow.

Winter plum tree,
echo of breaking off a twig:
my old elbow.

Winterpruimeboom,
echo van een twijg afbreken:
mijn oude elleboog.

[Yosa Buson # 842]
kanbaï o
ta-oru hibiki ya
oï no hiji.

"winter-plum-tree / by-hand-breaking-off echo -- / of-old-age elbow."

kanbaï ("cold-plum") =
koubaï ("crimson-red-plum") =
kankoubaï ("cold-crimson-plum") =
fuyú-no-umè ("winter-plum" > winter blooming plum).
Yosa Buson's haiku # 716 has "soubaï", but the "s" must be a typo.

Source haiku: The Collected Haiku Of Yosa Buson,
translated by W.S. Merwin & Takako Lento.
[Who did a piss-poor job at it, by the way!!]
