The Way of Blossoms. [MB347]
Another example of Jane Reichhold
botching up a Bashô-haiku, on purpose ??? Here's the right translation of MB347:
Snow blossom party,
when sweeping off with the prize*,
then** it's time to fall***.
Sneeuwbloesemfeest,
pas als de prijs* weggedragen,
past het ons te vallen***.
Translation: 白ç‹
[Dec. 3, 1687, at Yûdô's in Nagoya.]
Ãza sarába / yukà mì ni koróbu / tokóro máde.
Ãza = adverb/interjection: now, come (now), well. ["Well, when ... "]
sará = saráru = to sweep away, (fig.) carry off (with the victory/prize).
-ba = "when"
[* the prize given to the one that composed the best haiku, and I don't have to tell what that prize might have been !!!]
yukÃ-mì ni = "snow-see-at" > at(-a-)snow(-blossom-)viewing(-party).
koróbu = to fall < literally and figuratively !!
[*** then it's time to fall ... like snow blossoms do !!]
tokóro = place, also: whereupon, as a result, about to, on the verge of.
máde = until.
[** tokóro máde =
"until place/time/whereupon" = "then" (it's time/place to).]
hanátsúmi >> florea ratio >> the way of blossoms/flowers:
"mea ratio longe dÃscrepat a tuo instituto."
"my way* very-much differs from your way**."
[* liberal-minded, self-taught. ** institutionalized, conservative,
obedient to what is considered virtuous by other people.]
